A Shave Every Month!
One of the rituals at Enyorata and, in fact, for most children and adolescents in Tanzania is to have their heads shaved. This prevents diseases that are more common in Tanzania. At first, the children went to the local barber, but after Vincent realized that he used the same tool to shave every customer, the orphanage needed to make a change. Now, one of the caretakers at Enyorata has the honor of removing the hair from each child. Boys and girls get the same coiffures. Unlike many American children, the kids don't protest and the trimming session takes place quickly.
